Hello, world

The first post: who's writing this, how I work, and what I'll write about here.

· 1 min read

Most first programs print one line. This is the first post here, so:

js

console.log("Hello, world");

I'm Jason, a self-taught engineer in Ho Chi Minh City. I've been building things for over ten years. By day, I work as a software engineer. By night, I build my own products and post them on Jason Labs.

This site is where I write it down: what I built, how I built it, and what I learned.

The loop on the home page

The home page opens with three lines of code:

js

while (!works()) {
  tryAgain();
}

Try, break it, try again until it works. Nobody taught me this job, so that's how I learned it, and it's still how I work.

So the posts here won't pretend it worked the first time. What broke is usually the part worth writing down.

What I'll write about

Three things:

  • Builds. A product I shipped, told as a story: the architecture, the hard parts, and what broke.
  • Tech. The craft, with the code: frontend, motion, and turning a design into a page that feels finished.
  • Thoughts. What I've learned doing this on my own, with a day job and my own products at night.

Most posts will be articles. Some will be videos, and some will be a short note.

How to follow

There's no newsletter and no comment box here. New posts come out by RSS.

The products I've shipped are on Work, and how I got here is on About.

Now, back to the loop.
